  • Mull Of Galloway, Today, Sunday.

    HI Fellas.
Me and a mate headed off to the Mull of Galloway at 5am this morning, He said it was awkward to get to,... he wasnt F**n Kidding, anyway, after a VERY nervous shuffle down to the ledge, we got on with the Buisness. Took a nice 2 lb Pollack first cast, and snapped the end 18\" off my rod on the second, maybe a fault. Plodded on with the broken rod and over the next 4 hors took 13 Pollack, all on jellyworms, Best about 2 anahalf pound, lost about 3 good fish.
Then began the long haul back up to the lighthouse. Now Im not a nervous man, I was a retained Firefighter for 8 years and Ive been in some hairy situations, but no joking lads, I was Sh***ing myself getting back to safe ground.
So much so that I have decided to rename it ARSECLENCH POINT!!.
Headed for the SHIP INN at drummore for two of the best pints of the black stuff Ive ever tasted, then on to a Shingle beach, ( dunno the name, but got nowt. Cracking mornings sport, apart from the broken rod, and my hoop has now settled to its normal tension.

    Thought Id let you know.

    Cheers lads.

    Paul

Was risking your life worth the fish you caught. You can catch just as many fish from easier marks along the East side of he Mull

Just out of interest, for those who have fished both, which is the toughest - the Mull or Fast Castle Head ?

Paul - me and Sless fished it a couple years back and i totally agree ,it scared the F%$k out of me at the time - it was the climbing down that was the worst - and as it was a bit slippy going back up (after a canny days fishing mind you ) i reckon i could still be there now if it had started to rain :P :P as it would have been only mountain goats who would have made it to the top.

Fished it last year Brian found it fine going down but my ar=se was tight going back up,there was loads of gulls screaming there t\'ts off,so i thought i would get my second wind and have a \"minute\",this made it worse because you cannot resist looking at the \"VIEW\".
Going to stick to the East side from now on.
Yes Alan your right \"its not worth it\"
Richy i\'am going over week commencing 31/07.not sure what days i\'am fishing though.
                  Cheers Alan...

First time I went down my legs were still like jelly when me mate was pulling in the first fish. I wouldn\'t even contemplate it if it was damp. The climb back is tiring but much easier than getting down.

I know what you mean about the view though, couldn\'t help stopping for a photo.

Coming up north tomorrow on my hols so just a gentle nudge - those who have fished Fast Castle Head, and there was a thread about it a while back, is it easier to fish than The Mull or not. I think the Mull is more accommodating, especially if its dry but would appreciate other views

To answer Daves question in my opinion the Mull head is much worse than Fast Castle.

I have fished both and would go back to Fast Castle, (on a dry day). But not to the Mull Head. I have fished the mull head in the dark before for conger, now thats ar*se nippin. I am now a bit older and wiser and as Alan says your life aint worth a fish.

There\'s a worse bit further round before the fog horn that you need ropes to get down. Came round the head with \'On yer Marks\' a few years ago now and saw a young lad perched on a ledge at the bottom with his spinning rod, MAD !.
