    Hi,

I was down today, the main gate was closed, so had to climb round to get on the pier. I saw a few lads coming off with carrier bags full of mackerel so they were there, but had gone by the time i got to the end

It was left a bit of a mess, mackerel guts everywhere

I might have another shot tomorow.

POT go along every morning and clean the pier now.

What impressed me the most last week was a man and 2 lads picking things up for the POT lad as he was taking ages on the end with the endless packets of daylights and so on, i had a bit crack with him and it is now part of there job to open the gates in the morning then walk along in the sumer months and pick up the rubbish.

What an absolute disgrace and waste of public money that is ,sounds like a totally unnecessary service . The people that make the mess in the first place will end up having the pier closed to all fishing .
You can take the lad out of Walker but .......

Was only about 6 or 7 on the end at about 3pm.

Most were fishing before the gate, saw a guy catch a nice codling from next to the main gate fishing the river side.

Always a chance this week with the big tides, only down side is all the frest water that will be flooding out the river tonight and Wed.

Worth a bash, i did canny on Monday with spinners etc for them.

I agree Steve waste of money if he was emplyeed just to walk along and pick up the rubbish but as i understand it they always had to open the pier and walk along to check it was safe before letting the public on each day, just an odd onto there job by the sounds of it.

They do have rubbish bins and they do get used but the main areas they have them are not areas fisherman fish..i.e 44 or the end and we all know most people that fish the odd day in the summer months only, do not walk more than 5ft unless it is to cast over someones line because they have just caught a fish lol

The Port of Tyne has nothing to do with with the Tax Payer, Council or Government, it's a trust port that generates its own income and every penny of profit made, goes back into the Port.
