    Hi lads was just wondering if you can use a multiplier for spinning for Macky or do you have to use a fixed spool thanks

      You'll get a better cast with a fixed spool using light gear mate

            You need to consider the overall tackle situation.
            First of all if the rod is more for beach-casting then you'll probably find that it's better throwing out weights of 4oz upwards which really is way too much for mackie fishing generally.

            In that case a multiplier would be fine but I'd suggest you were over the top in the tackle being used.

            Lighter tackle, rod of maybe 11' bass or estuary type with a weight range of between 2 and 4oz, line strength (mono) of 15lb, or braid anywhere up to 30lb as it's a lot thinner and able to cast easier would best be used with a fixed spool reel.

            Fine fishing is always better for mackerel as it gives you so much more feel and mackerel are really good fighters for their size. Some people go really fine with a single lure rather than the string of 6 lures and a short spinning rod to get the best in way of fishing pleasure.
