as far as I am concerned the records list should stay put even if they are not a true record list, as to get on the records list it was open to only national federation members, therefore it is not a British record list, but a NFSA list, the same as the northern fed list, but a good starting point, I have fish on my North East records list that are bigger than the British list, and won awards from national mags, but did not get on the British records list, not a member of NFSA. To make it a true records list it should be open to anyone, as long as they have the proof.
There's many pictures of Alan Yates on web and in mags he looks lke most if us - bogging
ha he is a bit of a chinless wonder nice voice for the wireless though , but i agree with everyone about the scrapping & i have read the article myself .some of his points are valid with ref to some weights (see link) Size Matters | Sea Fishing and Sea Angling Online not that it would include any of my few catches unless it was for the smallest ever shore caught by rod in the on the longest ever session using the most bait in every cocktail known to man and a few not ( r.i.p. roy castle )

Don't get me started on Roy Castle
I've started - if it wasn't for his missus we'd still be smoking tabs in pubs
And ...............
there's 2 things I remember from the Guiness Book of Records (Let's not forget the McWhirter twins - one of whom was an arch facist, I thought the IRA were a bit harsh attacking a lad off kids TV for being long and having a good memory)
1 was the 2 fat american twins on motorbikes (they were little bikes to make them look bigger I've since realised)
2 was the geezer with 8 million fags in his mouth

Does Alan Yates not just talk ****e to stirr up debate.
He was the only voice i heard in favour of the licence and now this, it may just be to get a discussion going. or he may just talk bollocks.

maybe there was a nice job for the boys and a big fat salary and company car to go with it
The only opinion that he has that I think is worth debating is his suggestion to measure on length rather than weight. This would allow a catch and release system that would allow specimen fish to be returned rather than being killed.I wonder how many record fish actually end up in the pan?
