It's going to be won from one of the piers - north drum I reckon.

It's 25 years since I last fished the Open; can't remember the numbers from that year but I do remember we moved the weigh in from The Knack to the leisure centre because of the entry the year before (this was in the days of Clifford House, way before the building of the new HQ).

1988 I do remember well; it was the year BBC Newcastle did a programme focussed on the Open. It was part of their "Peculiar Obsession" series and was called "Jim and Alex and Chris and Ken" (Dobie, Harvey, Stringer and Robinson) and followed our four (and others) through the day of the comp. Used to have a copy on VHS (now sadly lost); the entry that year was about 1300 and the footage shows the beaches and piers with anglers literally shoulder to shoulder all the way along the coast.

Sadly I think the days of 1000 plus entries (the record entry for the Seaham Open was 2002 anglers IIRC) are long gone, but for the first time since I moved away after 1989 I'm going to have a go...

I think the winning fish will come from the northeast coast 😄

very good prize table, good boundaries, just hope the weather gets up and drops off with a good turn out to reflect a weigh in and to help maintain this prestigious club.

its been going since 1912 and i think its the uk's 2nd oldest club to dover or something like that.

well done, best of luck, fingers crossed.

Still debating whether to fish it like

It's something to do with the back end of some storm forecast pond flat Sunday no swell at all.

F*ck that then im not fishing it

A daft fish will win it but i cant be arsed to camp out to get on the popular marks. If the sea was away you could turn up anywhere and have a chance

Might sound like a daft question but this will be my first proper comp, when people are on about getting to their favourite mark early sunday morning...whats stopping them fishing before the match starts ? will there be stewards everywhere ?
Me and my son both got south pier pegs so doesn't really apply to me, just wondering...
