I would try shields pier with a spinning rod and fixed spool reel. Use red gills on a running ledger.
    Drowning worms since 2007.

The north east coast is producing them all over at the moment, lad had 2 from Marsden beach last night on bait.

Red gills are the best method but keep it in mind that it is only in the last few years we have had pollack in good numbers and size, try not to kill every fish you catch over 2lb like i seen on Sunday, 3 pollack in the sun left on the pier between 2lb and 3lb.

Since the report of the big pollack from shields it has been a mad house on the blocks, a area not many used to fish.....spoke to one group "going to catch a double figure pollack today" was the cry with a serious face...well yer but 1 fish in 104 years since the pier was opened dont give you very good odds lol.

Anyway hope you catch one or two, i ahev managed over 60 now since March from Shields best about 5lb so they are there.

I caught one at the 50 mark last week using a float. The hook was baited with rag and sitting about 12 feet down.
Earlier that week Jarrow Viking caught one jigging down the side with a spinner from the same area. Other anglers were catching them on daylights as well so it seems that you can more or less catch them with any method of fishing.
