I've got a rod which only needs one eye whipped on to it but I would like it to look like the rest. Does anyone know anyone decent (that doesn't mean expensive lol) who could whip an eye on for me to look like the others?

Whipping an eye on is easy...its getting the varnish finish right that isnt.
Couple of options.
Use a model aircraft dope...but this is a very low solids coating so when it dries the film is on 10% of what ypou put on with the brush. So you have put put on loads of coats toget that thick glossy finish. It holds up well , looks good and is sal****er resistant. The down side is you may need 8-10 coats to get the look of the original rod.
The manufactures use a polyurethane high build. Costs a lot but goes on in one coat ( saves 10 days putting coats on ) to stop it sagging put the rod in a battery drill on very slow and keepit spinning for about 15 mins whilst the solvent flash off. Dont put the rod in the chuck ...put a cork in the wide end and a screw in the cork. Best home based equivalent of how the manufacturers do it...they spin the rods in front of a spray booth.
You can get an AC Laquer from specialised wood finishing companies...great stuff...one coat. Huge build and high gloss...BUT...expensive as it doesn't come in small bottles and after about 3 years it goes cloudy...a quick fix...but not a long term one.
Get the high build PU two pack...mix a thimble at a tme as it goes off on its own. Dont worry too much about the ratio of the two materials ...if you get it wrong it will dry eventually just not asquick as it says on the bottle.Save our Sharks Member
