Exactly the same down Roker last night. One mackie caught all day apparently with a smattering of coalies and some sizable plaice from the barrier. Went down feathering at dusk but no dice....but a lovely night..

fished blyth myself sat & sun ,loads of spinning going on no catching though , a question from a beginner to you all ,when walking back along the pier at about 9.30 i looked down into the shallower water towards the beach the water was crystal clear and full of little dark fish swimming in a line , then swimming in a big circle with what looked like silver sandeels flying in to the shoal .are these little fish what attracts the mackrel inshore ??

Yep and any other fish that fancies a chomp on them.

Spinners work by immitating the flashes of silver like their sides when they're darting around in a panic.

Feathers work by taking on a similar shape as a group of individual fish when wet and pulled through the water.

When we was kids we use to catch though`s little fish(sprats) by foul hooking them with a series of (6) small treble hooks tied to the main line above the sinker. cast and jig through the shoal. then use them as bait on a cigar-float, set the depth to about 2+ meters under the surface,we caught pollock, coalies, makeral that way on roker pier.
