after reading about sea float fishing i thought i would have a pop at it , so bought a little kit with float weight hook etc an set of to st marys island ( in my head i pictured big colourfull wrass 1st cast ) but when i set up and casted out the float just sank straight down under the water so i reeled in cast out again same thing again after speaking a little bit of french i gave up and took the float off and had a go at what im sure was called a running leger in coarse fishing ,caught nothing but weedfish , can anyone offer any advice on how to set up a float rig , do you plumb the depth ? what are the best marks to have a go ? what baits could work best ? , what species are best to target ? many thanks davey

yea sussed that tony , or mabee the rag was on steroids , why did they sell a kit that had a weight that was too heavy in it ? it looked a bit cheap n nasty so i bought some floats on there own that look better quality now and im going to get the weights sorted by experimenting with set up in the bath

with regards to "plumbing" the depth it's more to do with figuring out what depth the fish are feeding at...
A sliding stop knot on the mainline will allow you to do this and adjust to suit
Ragworm has always worked for me with Wrasse and St Marys is a good local spot - but you can float fish off any of the piers or rock ledgesOoh a new vid!

Laccy band can be used although I find they're quite cumbersome and can get trapped in the rod rings...try here for a stop knot...
