Horrible looking fish

Has anyone seen one of these before, it got washed up when I was fishing Collywell bay today.

Its a lumpsucker. They often get washed up, which is the main reason they're banned from most matches.

i saw henry gilby on the tv the other day fishing in norway, he caught a wolf fish not the prettiest species either , a quick question though are these lump suckers native to the uk ? if so what is there habitat etc ?

Caught 2 from Shields pier over the years and 1 from Seahouse, they grow some size mind.

Seen a one last year whilst crabbing they are a funny looking fish like.

Yep, native to our waters, they live in deeper waters but come inshore this time of the year to breed. One of those fish that we seem to see in peaks and troughs, be loads one year then hardly any for years then suddenly loads again.

there must be no gulls up there !!! they normally have there eyes out before they've hit the shore
