  • North Vs South Friendly

Just wondering if anyone has ideas for a friendly NvS match on the south side later this year. I was thinking 18th October (Saturday night). Meet at the Crows Nest (Seaham Hall). Fish anywhere south of the Tyne (obviously) maybe have optional heaviest fish/bag pools and maybe a pint in the Crows Nest after. We will need a mars bar to keep Tony happy lol. Maybe 4pm till 10pm or there abouts. Any input lads?

It is just before the November comp for the RNLI, but this year it will be on the north side Alan.

Why not have a spring/summer meetup instead maybe may, i know ive had some canny catches in may in the past, and the weather is better hehe.

The crows nest is a good meetup spot also, right on the coast, easy to find, and close to me, so like gazzawill i can walk.

I was thinking a colder month meet so the Northern lads can get a bit extra practice in.

When Tony first started the N v S he arranged it so that it would be on the opposite side of the Tyne to the winter comp each winter.

As you say last years was run along side Tony's Comp. There are a couple of excellent prizes for this years winter comp, they were donated by Paul (matchman) and it will be very worthwhile winning indeed

I think Sean's idea is a good one but why not have a friendly every couple of months or so (either side of the Tyne), that way a lot more marks will be used and it will make the annual comp a lot more competitive. It will also bring new members together a lot more and make them feel more at home, Just a thought.

                          Jim.

Freindly Comps are a good idea...it's just a case of people taking part and making the trip...the one in January was quite successful with a good stamp of fish landed that night...if, like Jim said, they were ran more frequently more people could/would get involved

Maybe instead of setting wide boundaries, set a very localised venue - this could give people a chance to talk etc and newbies would be able to glean info more easily

I totally agree Jim. Just thinking if they are too often they may lose their appeal?? I also like the idea of a comp with boundaries. The hall at Seaham is big enough to accommodate us all but not have us too far apart. Come to think of it there are numerous venues that would be suitable. It would be nice also, to meet up after the weigh in and have a shandy together and a good chinwag.

Maybe fishing in pairs as a rule for the comp, a north member with a south member. Could help the northern lads who aren't familiar with the southern marks and vice versa. Maybe even fish heaviest bag pairs with your assigned north/south partner, to help working together??
