going camping this weekend in this area some advice on the fishing would be great as i`ve never been there before wot rods rigs should i take for pollack and colies or is spinning the best way if so will my carp rod be ok to use or is a beach caster the best bet
cheers for any help people
Hi Chris,
Access to the castle point is a 2k walk from craster, so dont hump a ton of gear. A carp rod would suffice with a selection of lures/ feathers. frozen sandeel even, these are available from the surfshop in seahouses.
Pike float will do. Jellyworms spun about 5ft behimd a drilled bullet sholud take polack. Try beadnell. the point behind the lime kilns.
( I only say that cos I took a 6 lb plusser there last week!!
what saftey advice can you give as it`s my first time of rocks i`ve only fished beach and pier ?
also would it be worth takeing my fly rod along as well
cheers for any help as i won`t fish a mark if i don`t feel safe
If there\'s pollack about have a crack with the fly rod. I\'ve found sinking lines work best up there. Give it a few seconds to sink before you start a retreive. Weighted flies help. As for safety, commons sense should be all that you\'ll need. It can be a bit of a clambr over some of the rocks, but nothing too bad. travel light if you can. For me I\'d just take ter carp rod and fly rod. you can do a bit of bait fishing with your carp rod if you feel the need, but lures with a bit of weight to them or a sandeel on a 5 or six foot trace behind a small zip silder or drilled bullet (1 to 2 oz) can be deadly for pollack.

Thought for the day:
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Well done, sounds like a good weekend. I tried the spinner at Whithorn because a lot of the pollack took sandeel/worm as I reeled it in without having had the take on the float but only one small knock on the spinner.
no alan nowt on float because i forgot to take some but saw aome colies caught on the float only undersize glad to see most where put back unharmed to grow on
