the new fixed spool reel i have has a very shallow but wide spool compared to my old freshwater ones from ages ago , the lad in the shop said he would load the line on but i had a go doing it myself . i think i have loaded it with too much line because when i feed it through the rings even in a light breeze the line falls of ( when the bailing arm is flipped over ) how far up the spool would you go ? mine is level with the top of the spool should i cut it back ?? the reel came with a spare spool so as advised by the lads im going to fill it and put it in my box .cheers davey

load the reel fitted to the butt section and feed the line thru the butt ring .get the mrs to hold the spool of line on a pencil and load the spool.
about level ,don,t overfill ,should be ok , the line will bed in after a few casts.

did that. got the line free with the reel king fisher is the make, falls off like a orange slinkey , coming from a very old coarse background i thought it was just the breaking strain 25 pound , ( i was advised to use that rather than a 15 pound line with a shock leader being a novice) but now feel it could be a "ehem" less than flexible make ? could be wrong though . any thoughts ?

fixed spools arnt really suited for heavy line mate, drop it down to 15lb or less and it should be soundLast edited by will powell; 06-04-2008, 07:33 AM.North East Surfcasting Association
