On the home page there is a story entitled

\"I thought it was cold tonight..... but then I remembered\"

Does anyone remember when it was? I have a story about fishing a similar night on Tynemouth sands aged 16, so making it 1972 but would like to be precise. Sure some of us are still alive.

Could have been around that time. i remeber one winter i was fishing the Sumps, had a few codlings but found it harder and harder to get my mussel and worm out my bucket as the water froze. Went home.

Hi Stores, It was me that wrote that bit... I think I was about 22/23 yrs old that would make it about 17/18 yrs ago\' and I was\'nt pulling any fast ones.. It was Effin freezing... I wish I could find my old mate Robert Pounds of Whitley Bay and Kim and they could conferm it,, I aint seen the guy for about 8/9years ,,,, I have never been so cold in my life, Im a butcher and I work in fridges & blast freezers the blast freezer drops down to -35 , all the time you can only spend 10/15 mins in it .. and W Bay beach felt like that,, not as cold but after a nights fishing it felt like it,, so you are looking for about 1985/86 poss 97 .... all I know it was a tad chilly

        Thanks Tich,
My experience is much older than that as I was teaching down here in the Midlands when you\'re event took place. I remember, like you and Al having problems with the bait - we had to keep the worm tub topped up with sea water to stop the lug freezing.

Hi David, I remember about 1982 fishing from Amble pier, It was the coldest night I could ever remember. As we were reeling in the sea water was dripping onto the reel and turning to ice. I have never been as cold as that until I pulled in a codling of eight and a quarter pounds. It is true what they say, adrenalin keeps you warm.

We all had a good catch that night every one had at least one fish of five pounds or more.

Oh for more of the same.

I have had nights close to that since, both on W.B. and Blyth beaches where the sand has been frozen solid and the lug worms have started to freeze, but not quite as bad as Amble.

                Jim.
Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.

I fished old north shields ferry landing in the late 70s and it was that cold i had a built up of ice on my tip ring and could not get the line in, I must admit that thye maybe a little fresh water in the tyne making it easier to freze
