Spell of light west winds and you will catch mackerel from any open sea mark if water clean.

Never fihed for them from that spot so never caught one by the way.

Thanks 4 that information Matchman i might give it a go, not loads fish the prom in summer to be honest as well so it may be good bottom fishing with a rod for flounders etc and spinning or even float fishing for mackeral.

Seen them caught on spinners from Cresswell beach, one evening last year when it was realy quite dark. I think it's the usual case of being "in the right spot - at the right time"

Mackerel will show up just about anywhere where they chase their 'food', but if you want to target them specifically from Hendon prom, then I would choose an evening or early morning high tide. No doubt you will catch them in the right spot sooner or later........just a case of keep trying I'm afraid.

Best of luck anyway, let us know how you get on. First ones should show within about 8 or 9 weeks if we get the right weather conditions (Flat seas)

makey caught on a float-rig is great fun, we use to treble hook sprats on roker-pier and then fish with them as bait on a float-rig. never tried at hendon, it was always a winter mark for me. your chances from the open coast can be just as good, if not more adventurous.
