  • 44 mark on south shields pier

Hi all I am going plaice/flattie bashing on Friday and I don't know whether to fish the 44 or the first gate? The question is can you fish the 44 marks on high water and the ebb or like I have read it fishes that the 44 marks fish best on the flood? Can anybody settle my conflicted mind.

Try both spots. If one of them isn't fishing then try the next one

            44 mark

Hi all thanx for the advice, I think I will try the first gate first then go from there. There has been a few plaice caught but there is very little around at the moment, but everyone loves a tryer and like my wife says I am very trying.
I am still trying to beat my personal best plaice which is 5lb and i love fishing for them it's so much fun and they are great eating as well.

What time was that? I fished the 44 from around 11am until 5pm and only had a few flounder

In my experience the 40s marks fish at any time of the tide but two days are never the same. There's a chance of different species too, good mark to fish.

                        44 mark

Hi I did not know that the 44 was that snaggy. Then again shields pier is a mystical venue for fish and snags ,you can go one day have no snags and land some canny fish, you can go another day catch nowt and snag nearly every cast. Strange strange place.

If you fish into the river side from there it is very snaggy indeed. Best to fish the sea side from the 40s marks.
