  • Crab Cart Northumberland

Ok lads FYI, revised bylaws for Northumberland have been drawn up. The good news is there is a proposed new bylaw allowing us to use Edible Crab Cart as bait. If you are interested go to the website and support the consultation and get this new bylaw through. Come to the open day at Blythe or any other meeting, remember the new proposed MCZ Coquet to ST Mary's is very much on the cards. As recreational anglers you will be part of the Strategic Environmental Assessment, Boat or shore.

Does that mean cart will now be allowed in the comps up north?

Only if and when it's made legal, not before.

Anyone know if the new by law will include the collection of eaters north of the Tyne or just the use of it?

would imagine that if it is allowed you would still have to adhere to legal size limits, have to see the final wording of the bye law, personally can't see it being allowed to take edibles under the legal size limit, commercial potters would be up in arms.

Dave this will answer your question page 18, 2.d http://www.nifca.gov.uk/wp-content/u...April-2014.pdf

The above will give you the draft wording of all the revised bylaws to be consulted on, obviously they have to be within the MLS as you can see they propose to up the lobster take by 1

"Paragraph 2 does not apply to any person gathering shellfish
from the shore or divers working from the shore or a vessel,
by means other than a pot, as long as they do not take more
than 2 lobsters, 5 edible crabs or velvet crabs, 20 whelks or 5
                  prawns in any one day;"

Dave, you may well be interested in this, a chance to talk to DEFRA direct about NIFCA http://www.nifca.gov.uk/wp-content/u...dence-pack.pdf

Hi Les and thanks for the information. Am squaring the hypotenuse at the minute so I'll give it a read over lunch. Good to see NIFCA making such a public issue of it. A world apart from some of the IFCA stuff that makes the fishing bulletin boards.

David, glad to see Pythagorus alive and well in our schools in this Google everything era. We have some good sea angling members who actually participate and engage, our latest member is David Thompson from the charter boat "On A Promise" (Berwick).

Tony, it has always been 5 prawns, I will look into it, species wise. I am not sure it is there to protect the little prawn on the waters edge, more like the monsters out in the mud.
