Assuming features such as hand rail are added...nice spot to have your ice cream from.
I wonder if the splies will still be fishable in the meantime

The contractors doing the work are building in our office for the next month I'll see if I can get any more info

I know some lads who fish the breakwater in Dover, massive tides and plenty of lost gear. Every year they have a deal with a local diving club - the divers spend the day retrieving lost leads from the ground around the pier and club members buy them back. Everybody wins - tackle snags are cleared, lads get cheap lead weights and the diving club raises funds.

Don't know if there is a diving club in Seaham but could be worth an ask from the club...

If it is open to the public can see the number of members at the club dropping, but if it does get opened up to the public surely they will need railings up?

Once the work is done this has to be good news. Would be nice to know the scope of the works and what the plans are for the northy. This must be available somewhere if being funded by public funds.
I fish the Heugh in Hartlepool and wish they would shut that for the same period of time and repair it.
I cannot understand people moaning and twisting when it will be an improvement to fishing areas.

I would think the Seaham dock company will fund this work and it would be repair/upkeep work.

At the end of the day these piers weren't built of angling/fishing off,they were built to protect the harbours and give safe haven for shipping.
The privileges we anglers have to fish on them is secondary and good relations between the angling club and the dock company is important.

It's only relatively recently that the North Pier has had a gate on it at all. Certainly when I was previously a member in the 1980s there was no gate and the club was thriving back then.

Maybe peoples expectations have changed but back in the day you joined the club for the sake of joining the club, the competitions, the insurance and, back then, access to the South Pier (we used to have to walk through the dock to access the South pier back then, showing your photographic dock pass at the security hut and wearing a hard hat and hi-viz).

Will they allow access to the public without putting railings up? In this day and age of ambulance chasing lawyers I can't see it but even if they do there will likely be a locked gate which, like South Shields, is open for public access during the day but would still need a members key to get on after dark.

This matter is out of S.S.A.C.hands if the pier needs repairs done that are essential.If this work is not done the pier may breach which would probably then be condemned for good.
Members with pier key will be able to use that same key for the south pier gate which will work on both gates when north pier is re-opened 31st October.
S.S.A.C. are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Its not the clubs fault FFS. Personally now the Southie is re-opening I'll pay my subs and join. Great shot in the winter and was a loss when it was closed off.

But it has no public access? I think the dock company are funding it from what I have heard
