  • Which is the best line to use?

can anyone recommend a good long-distance casting line.
its just iam always on the look-out for new line-types, and living in a country where there are very few surf-casters i got nobody to ask.
i mean i have no problems with mono- lines but i recently tried with fluorocarbon. and for the first time in about ten years i got a birds-nest
so any idea`s what i should try next would be great.

    Hi,
Mate the monos i mainly use for my sea fishing/winter fishing are Ultima F1 and Maxima chameleon both have very low diameters and cast very very well, they are a bit pricey but last a lot longer than other lines. Never had no problems with any of them just i have been told maxima doesn't like sunlight,it damages through the heat etc. Don't no whether this is true or not. But i have use both maxima and ultima lines for ages now and as i say i have never had any problems with them, if its distance line and quality line you are after look no further than either Maxima or ultima lines. Even when both lines have been casted and casted or reeled in through rough terrain(rock and Kelp) they both don't seem to damage as easily as the cheaper lines. Also when you are in a snag 30lb test ultima F1 takes some snapping very very tough line. Hope this bit information helps you mate.

Thanks mate, i actually use maxima as shock-leader, love the colour of it.
im not into bright fancy coloured lines but brown and clear are best i think
maxima`s a bit hard to get hold of over here. have to buy it mail order.

that "berkley" fluorocarbon is a bit stiff and i noticed i was`nt reaching the same distances. and it changes colour in sunlight(so what! i say).
well i will give them you said a bash, thanks again!

Yep i like using clear or brown lines when i am fishing even though ultima f1 is black but you can also get the clearish stuff. Super tough ultima F1 it is.

Ultima F1 is my current line of choice, casts very well indeed and isn't all that pricey, and so far has been rock solid for me, pulling out of snags, even on the 20lb line is hard work.

Maxima Chameleon, another great line (old but that doesn't detract from it's quality in my opinion), haven't used it shore fishing but Barbel fishing it's my 1st choice for mainline every time.
