Not bad but tend to get faults after a while, try and get yourself a cheap second hand ABU 6500 instead, regards DAVE.

looking at the gear ratio, I'd say it's maybe more of a light boat reel to be honest, Identical to some of the cheapo fladen boat reels, just badged shakespeare.

It'll be a nightmare to cast. If its your first multi, I'd advise to stay away. If there's one thing that will put a beginner of multi's for life its a crap one!

Id you watch ebay, you often see Daiwa millionaire's, older models - 6HM and the like for 20 quid or so. OK second hand, but will probably outlive the shakepeare one may times

ABU 6500' pop up around the same price from time to time as well

In the long run it'll be a better investment, as I've no doubt you'll soon want to 'upgrade' to something better

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

i'd go for a Okuma mag 30 or a slosh 30. the Okuma 30 has a fantastic breaking system and is only £60 tops new! loads of people on here will recomend the slosh and i'm getting the slosh 20 for when i'm fishing the beaches but for am all round reel i'd go with the Okuma. You will want to have magnetic breaks on yuor reel it will save you a load of heart ache and burnt fingers when your learning to cast it.

Love the slosh reels, can't beat them for all round value. Try getting 2nd hand 20 and 30 and you will be sorted for all your fishing needs.
I've never used the Okuma but they look canny.

Thats the slosh 30 and it would be ideal if you can get it for a good price. You should be paying around £30 - 35 quid for a good condition 2nd hand 1. That will be fine if you can get it cheap.

Sigsy i bought a second hand abu 7000 off e-bay a couple of years ago when i came back to the sport.Paid someting like £40 Its been a cracking reel. Only problem was when the level wind broke. Thought about converting it and taking it off but my local tackle shop replaced the level wind for £15.To see it now it looks like its been in fight with a tin of paint stripper. All of the black paint is coming off. But the reel still works fine. I can use it from the shore, pier or boat.
Early this year i asked mr Visa to treat me to a nice new modern reel so i bought a Penn supermag extra for £150. I also bought a new rod.
I fish using both reels on two rods now. The mag is out as far as poss and the abu more often than not,not to far behind.
I have never had a shakespear multiplyer and would not get one.
Like the lads say stick with a good second hand reel to start with.
Slosh,Abu. Penn. All good reliable makes and some good second hand prices. (mind you can get a new 7000 now for £40).

                      Mick.

It might also be an idea not to put links on here to a reel that you are into.
That gives other a chance to bid as well and may drive the price up.
Better to simply cut and paste the info without any info that links it.

uptider of light boat reel mate, dont waste your money, as others have replied look for a dedicated beach reel that ideally has either centi or mag braking
