  • open shore competitions

after holding the 4th northumbrian open contest in feb,
bedlington station are planning there next open for oct and this is now booked for the next 5yrs.think the date is the 19th with fishing from 11.00 untill 3pm,so not an early start.
as this will be the 5th open they would like to have some comments as to what you the shore angler really want to see in an open.
    i.e boundrys,prize money,table prizes ,etc etc etc.
    thanks in advance.

What I'd really like to see is people who say they are going to turn up (for any event) actually doing what they say. Not too much of an ask.

"childish response sorry" - nothing of the kind. Lots of people put a lot of hard work into getting things off the ground for our comp.. When they ask a reasonable question as I did to you - "will you be fishing the comp as you said you were going to do?" ....and the answer is " just remind me of the rules, boundaries etc"...even though you're on the website and they're all in front of you then I'm sorry but that's beyond the bounds. To then not reply or turn up borders on ignorance at worse or bad manners at best. As it happened you weren't missed or needed but that doesn't alter the fact that me as the captain am trying to pull the strings from 200 miles away and you are letting me down. A simple sorry I can't fish would have sufficed. Glad there were a hardcore of good eggs from both N and S who upheld the integrity of the comp. As for your comp - good luck with it but I will be unable to attend.

think you need to re write that gordon.
all anglers were included and they will be in all the open run by bedlington sac.
and if you look at the original post it was asking for information in what anglers wanted/ expected from an open.not a slagging match between me and you.we think this is a good open that offers quite a lot in way of money and prizes but wondered what else people wanted, but again gordon you are quick to jump to certain conclusions.you cannot please everyone in opens but we can only try.

why alter something thats not broken the station open is by far the best all the kids got a prize the women got there stuff and all the anglers had there position they finished in the open on nesa , the boundaries were spot on plenty area,s to pick from , one moan why change to oct as after xmas the bigger fish come in and people without peeler stand a chance to pick up a cod like on say worm or shell fish baits , jamcod

                  open

its not a slagging match bri, i can fish any where anytime. numbers were excellent this year and the comp was one of the best. just thinking of others not as fortunate as ourselves. i'm sure next years will be just as good if not better whenever its held.

I'm with Insano.....I think opens should be made with smaller boundaries so that they can be marshalled, to prevent, cheating, dumping of undersize fish, and dumping of rubbish.
"And I looked, and behold'a pale horse; and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with hi, and power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword and with hunger, and with the beasts of the earth"

I actually agree with bag limits BUT only with fish that are under pressure from overfishing etc

As to matches I've got limited experience although I do like the idea of measure and release whereby all fish caught are valid...but then how is that policed? (smaller boundaries? pegged matches?)
                            Ooh a new vid!

bag limits IMHO are a waste of time, you could go fishing and catch your limint in the first hour then what... pack up and go home!! i dont think so! you'd fish and hope for bigger and better fish, and if you did get better the fish you've already caught have to be thrown back and even if you have done your best to keep them alive they probs will die! to me it one the same level as trawlers who if they get a good catch have to throw fish back.. madness,

i do like the idea of measured comps though going on total length of fish but as tony said how do you police it ?
Happy to help, Keen to learn!
