I had a Kompressor S to send off to Grimsby.
Couldn't find any carrier to take it as it was way over their maximum length.
Tried Anyvan, a consortium of private carriers who go out to dozens of people for quotes and some of them were asking up to £90.
Managed to get past the Anyvan security which prevents me from speaking directly to any one of the carriers by sending him my tel no in letters rather than numbers.
Anyway, after discussing directly with him I negotiated his original quote of £38 down to £18.
He's a private individual who does this work part time using his own transport but doing it via Anyvan means he pays them £8 a shot.
He fits the deliveries into his weekly schedule so might not be very quick but it's worth bearing him in mind for this sort of work.
