  • Is it time yet ?????

If anybody catches any mackerel from the shore or piers could they post on here please. I\'m hoping to get over in a couple of weeks and I do so love a fresh mackerel.
If all about you are catching fish, cast in their swim !!!

would imagine it\'ll be any day now if it hasn\'t happened already,

they seem to be getting pretty close in according to the boats

The water around the Tyne area is very dirty with the north east winds.I gave it a bash last friday and got nothing.I cant see them showing up in any real number for at least 5 days due tot he colour in the water. We caught alot about 4 miles off on sunday.

Well I don\'y know about the lightest gear but I have had seven on light gear not extremely light line beacuse the way they behave is a bit manic, they all want to be in different directions, so you have to remember that\'s going to put extra pressure on your line half the time they drop off when getting them in the boat.
            it\'s bloody good fun though.

Chris use a light spinning rod and a 28 gram spinner much better fun than catching 5 at a time on lures and a 13ft beachcaster

lightest I have managed to get is a 7foot 4eght brook trout rod witha 4lb leader! best mackie a pound and three quarters, took nearly 15 mins to tame it!

As Billy says, reasonably lightwieight spinning rod and one of them 28g sprat lure type things. Pound for pound nothing fights like a mackeral!

Yup, agree with the above. if they\'re in you\'ll get a fish a cast. Use five hooks you\'ll get 5 fishes a cast. Limit yourself to a sensible keep, you\'ll have 5 times longer fun using a single lure. If you don\'t fill your freezer in a single trip (entirely possible) just gan out again.
