Depends on were and what you are fishing for. I would rarely use 15lb snoods at this time of year except for flatties and even then I'd usually be at least 20lb. Might use 40lb snoods on the beach or rivers when big seas. Even when you get a lot of whiting or small fish they can spin and twist your snoods and wreck them.

The black stuff you've seen might be Amnesia. Good when they get tangled cos can often pull straight when kinked. It can have it's problems though on clipped rigs because it stretches and won't clip down.

Have a look around at what others are using and use what you feel comfortable with. Good quality line is worth the extra quid when you find what you like.

          What rig ?

Hello there , I think you could get so tangled up in what rig for this and what rig for that . I use a clipped down pulley rig 50lb line for the sinker and 25lb line for the hook .It keeps me happy and it doesn't tax my brain too much .At the end of the day what are you happy with ?
          Where's it all gone

Hi Codhead, what sort of fishing do you do ? Beach,Pier or Rocks ?

Try and keep you rigs simple and make sure you knots are neat and tidy, spend money on quality line and hooks rather than fancy beads and booms
            Cheers Alan...
