          YES ! I tried it once . But I gave up after an hour , I couldn't get the hook through the shell ...................... Sorry I couldn't resist that one .

            ive used limpets before shelled them then leave them out a few days till stinking
            cracking bait from the boat drifting hard ground

              Was able to get some of the big ones once from a creel fisherman, but they didn't do anything. That was in the summer though, and off the boat. If you are tipping off another bait with smaller ones, then can't see it driving fish away. In fact, being so tough, it might help softer bait being stripped off by crab etc. Might also help with bait retention during the cast, and keeping the hook point clear of bait slipping down the hook shank. All in all, it certainly sounds as if it's worth a try.
