Catch Reports

Me and my mate were out last night and had over 15lb between us. His were bigger than mine, 2 fish 4 roughly 10lb! Now we're no experts but love fishing and have learned certain marks. These are not secret marks, they are very popular but we do put time and effort into learning to cast, trying different areas and baits etc. and most of all getting down by the sea. My point is, either people on here;-

A) Don't post catch reports and make people feel like the Cod are massively indecline. (Not saying they're not but not as bad as people say)

B) Actually don't catch anything. (happens to us all but not all the time)

C) Dont go fishing at all and sit infront of there computer screen giving out advice on certain marks when infact they've never fished them or never been out fishing in the last few years!

I'll openly admit i'm category A. I'm only 28 and can't remember the good old 70's and 80's. So i can't compare the noughties to that, but there is fish there when conditions are right.

Did you sign up to anything when you joined NESA that stated that you had to post catch reports.....NO....did you have to state that you would write about everytime you went out fishing just because somebody on here thinks you should NO. I was out last night and caught....weed tons of the stuff but do I intend boring everybody about the details of where that was NO

Get my point Through experience we have found that comments about lack of catch reports are counter productive and only result in people saying less and less. I have been contacted in the past by people who feel too intimidated to post on here. Yes its great to read catch reports and we should encourage the people who take the time and effort but what I dont want is fingers pointing to those that dont post.

Any posts that are designed to wind people up will be deleted /edited and that should be taken as a general warning to all...oh and dont forget we also have the option to ban

Read my edited post. Think I was having a PMT moment but what I say goes there has been alot of backbiting lately and we want this forum to work. You are more likely to get more catch reports by putting up a thread saying - I really like reading about peoples fishing trips and have learned loads form them so please keep up the good work

Well done Mate, excellent catch of fish. I agree with you're point that given the conditions the fish are there. I have caught bigger cod this year then i did last year due to going out in the right conditions, i have caught a small amount less than last winter so far but the fish have been greatly bigger.

NESA is a community and as such will have many and varied opinions and as you say thats what makes it interesting. However, there needs to be a balance and where members have felt intimidated about posting on the forum we as moderators are duty bound to ensure that the rest of the members are aware that we will not tolerate anything that disrupts the harmony of the forum. Lately we have had a spate of people joining purely to cause arguements. They join, wind everybody up, get banned, join again under a different name and so the circle goes. My firm response to this particular thread is that it is headed "catch reports" not catch report about his catch but a thread about people not posting about catches and comments about the state of fish stocks. This is already being debated at great length on another thread. Why post another one to discuss the same thing? If it truely was a catch report we have a section purely for catch reports so that people can access them easily and they dont get lost among the general discussion. I find your use of the term "democratic argument" interesting. Can I suggest that you review the wording and consider "democratic discussion" because that is what people find useful and constructive not destructive arguments. Please also bear in mind that the moderators see far more of the picture than you do so sometimes we will have to take action quickly and decisively to nip trouble in the bud.

Put simply -

Don’t create meaningless threads in main angling forums. Don’t create threads for the purpose of starting a dispute.

Good report mate and thanks for taking the time to start the thread. I enjoy reading catch reports and I am positive that the cod population is not on the decline to the extent that people think. When I fish in the South Shields area or the N.E of Scotland, if the weathers right, the fish are there often in good number. I think most members on the site like too see what is being caught, so do not be put off from posting as most members blank more than they catch these days, but as you said, you can't catch many coddies in the warmth of your living room !

Pottsy, i changed the thread because the author of 'cod in decline' thought it was getting off topic with all he bitchiness so i made it more specific to catch reports and what people actually report in there catch.

Just say, would u report a catch on here if u had 30lb of cod from one of yr local beaches?! or would u more likely report a codling caught and a rocklin?!

I openly admit i would report a big fish but prob won't report lots of codling i caught. I think alot of anglers on here are the same. Only then would u get a true reflection on how bad the cod fishing is on the NE coast

Stewy that explains it perfectly One things for sure if I catch owt decent you will all hear about it probably got more chance of winning the lotto but we all live in hope. I have only been fishing for the last couple of years so I have a lot to learn and I had no interest in it before then. I have to say that I enjoy the challenge the way things are. It would be boring if it was a 5 pounder every cast but I am willing to put up with it for a couple of nights just to see if it really is boring or whether I could cope

The south East forum doesn't even have a catch report section. A few people post their reports on it but most don't bother. One of the reasons is there are fewer consistent marks down here and when the news gets out that there are a few fish on the beach they get chocka with numpties fishing too close to you causing tangle after tangle. There have regularly been 100+ anglers down at Dungeness this winter as the fishing has been good and a lot of us have taken to fishing slightly less productive shots where we can fish in peace and still winkle out the odd cod. At least in the north east there are lots of different places within a short distance of each other (as long as the sea is not too big) and you can get a bit of space. If you read my post early JAn, I had 200 yards of beach to myself at dungie and had to move after an hour because I got crowded out. It wasn't worth saying anything to them because the next lot down would have jumped in the space and I would have spent all night telling people to bugger off! You need 50 yards clear downtide when the tide rips at Dungie or you are in tangle city. Not too bad if its mates as you work together and walk down when you reel in, but 3 noddies fishing side by side and you can't avoid tangles.
Keep posting your catch repots please, they are always interesting to us fishing exiles.
