I've owned the new mag2 and can't say I like them very much. They don't deem anywhere near as good as the originals. I now have the fathom and feel much better with it. Although My mate was landing smooth hounds on my reel down south I still don't rate themPB SHORE COD 9LB 14oz seaton sluice 3/11/12
PB BOAT COD 9lb 15oz
PB COALIE 9lb 8oz

I've jad a mag2 for a year now still looks and casts like its new.cast a couple of times full blast and forgot to put it in free spool but reel was fine ! So must be strong reels ! I've used the origional 525 too and find the mag 2 casts better for me. The only differance I've noticed is the mag 2 is louder when casting but depends what and how much oils in bearings . Took me a while to get used to mag 2 but learnt me to cast smoother. If your buying new give the reel a couple of months to run in they get faster and don't fluff up as easy .also use good casting line on these reels as they are fast and light and the wrong line want to nest up...I use nite crystal on mine and casts without fluffing up .my mates who have origional 525 have had problems with magnets poping out cages cracking and magnet setting moving but then the reels are a lot older now. I have a fathom 12 too stronger than amag 2 but standard unmagged fathom will not cast as far as a mag 2. Fatoms are nice though not keen on brakes though either too slow or too fast and the handle is offsett a little to far so when you winch it it tends to want twist the rod a bit.:-)
