  • Tripods

I\'m looking for a new tripod and had my heart set on a Breakaway GL after seeing one on a photo (of Gogs with a decent codling).

    Found this on eBay though:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=27414&item=3678868 880&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Does anyone have one of these and what is the general opinion on a 7 foot tripod - is it too big etc? It will fit in my car.

My current one is a veals telescopic which is great for putting in the boot but even with a leg lock kit it has a tendency to fall over, all the plastic bits have snapped off and one of the heads is severely battered.

    Cheers

Hi Mike R. I have a theory about trypods;; the manufactures know that they blow over in the wind, causing obvious dammage.. so they build them that way,,, they fall over, snap the plastic cup off, you buy another;there not cheap, so my answer to it all is to (if poss) super glue a new \'cap end??\' to the reamaning cup using an earosol (spelling) lid cut down to size/ shape .. I dont think I have ever seen a trypod with 2 full cups, thers always one missing if not both, My other trick is to use abag of sand hung off the trypod to weigh it down, or if not poss a bag of water or stones (guinness, export or lager) soz .. just get some type of weight on it ,even your tackle box will do it .this will P155 off the makers of ,\'We never blow over Trypods \'and hopefully they will use a less fragile plastic, thus ending damage to rods+ reels that have to be replaced,, by buying them off the manufactures that also happen to make rod rests

      mike

i use a 7ft ian golds tripod and cannot fault them.
had mine about 4 years and is still going strong even tho the legs are a little mis-shapen due to using it for cliff climbing...lol
it fell over when fishing at scarborogh and cost me £4 for a new top cup which are readily available.
easily got another 4 years left in it

fits in a car nea bother, fits in my mondeo hatch anywayz

      hope this helps
