end the day if the cod are not within your personal casting distance your not gonna catch them, you cant catch whats not there no matter what bait you use, personally i dont mind letting people know where i catch, especially as i dont catch that much anyway, its a pleasure thing not a catch or i will go hungry, you wanna fish next to me i dont have a problem, i use braid quite often so if you cast over me your the one whos gonna lose out , you wanna know where will fish tomorrow ??? horden will, biggest problems gonna be placing your bait were the greedy swines are, big old beach there, not like fishing for trout in a stock pond

You may catch a few fish rex, you're most very welcome to them.

The £2 a shell craic was hilarious as well - is a "Shell" what the in-crowd call a crab?
Moron. I'll spell it out for you. It means £2 per peeler crab. Dougy from wbay was right about you...

Yeah...maybe you'll break 2,000 posts and have a fish to talk about by the time.
What do you do all day.

Thats big of you Rex. 14 posts, and you're calling someone already because they don't agree with your post.

actually it was me who started this thread and i feel that nobody has grasped what i originaly said . i love winter cod fishing and i do know marks that produce on our coast line [sometimes] but its a far cry from the old days, when every mark produced constantly. I just feel than sometimes on some days and nights its not worth the effort and expence.

You're obviously right Paul. I used to fish with two lads when I was starting off (Ivor Spraggon was one - a member on here) and they used to tell me the stories of the Clyde Lochs, in particular Holy Loch, so its not just this coast that has suffered.

Personally, I like the challenge now. You know there aren't that many fish about, so getting a double figure bag is a good night.

I take the same train of mind during the summer when I'm Pollack fishing in SW Scotland. Its a challenge to find a new mark that produces decent amounts of fish.

Its no good thinking back to what it was like, you have to look forward and think what can you do to increase your chances.

I'll give you an example. A few years ago I broke a bone in my foot and was off work for 6 weeks. During the last week, to help the rehabilitation, I regularly walked along Whitburn looking for new spots to fish. I found one and vowed to fish it. I went down just on daybreak one winters morning, with a flat sea, and got a lovely gold 5 pounder out 1st cast.

That fish meant the world to me because I worked for it.

When it happens to you, you'll feel on top of the world.

I,m disappointed when i blank-but this is rare. I don,t have a police radio blaring on telling me what to do. I,m a mile away from idiots bouncing around coming out of nightclubs.
I don,t have the missus nagging me or the bairn wanting to take him out.
No its my time away from stress if i catch i catch if i don,t ill go to the chippy i,m not bothered.
We fished a competition recently and the lad next to me caught a sea trout. Never seen this before and probably won,t again.
Yea it was a great night that one.
Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

Some anglers have obviously put the time and effort in to find when and where to fish to get results. You just have to look at the competitions results to see the same names cropping up time and time again. When you have put the time and effort in like they have is it no surprise that they keep their 'secrets' to themselves or close fishing buddies as opposed to posting them on forums to find their favorite spots are overun the next time they go there. Fair play to them I say.

I am quite happy to show anyone where I fish but I dont like to disapoint people when they dont catch....lol
A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.

Does that mean I will have to get my 'post' count up before I am allowed an opinion! Think not! Rather go fishing.

Oh regarding the fishing its been a very good cod season in my opinion, yes it was better in days gone by but you have to move with the times: fish are still there its just finding them, not as consistent as times gone by and definetly not the numbers, but just more of a challenge & definetly worth the effort.

thanks for your replies dave and mick you seem to know what i.m saying.how can we change it, get it back to the times when you knew when you went out in a heavy sea for a sesh you would bag up [after all we are sea anglers and there nothing better than getting a sh\t load of cod, one after another, thats why we fish]i don,t go out in mid winter with a bag full of bait ,hoping to catch a few whiting .i want to catch a big cod ,now and then.the point is it,s getting rarer and rarer to get one why, not us ,we only take a minute amount for the pot its every body else in the E.U.hoovering every fish up they can get ,do you really think a spanish trawler gives a toss about our fishing quotas.do what norway does put a limit of at least 12 miles on our coast line.only then can we go back to the[GOOD OLD DAYS]

I love the fact that I have to justify my post count to certain members of this forum...there's more than you that's commented BTW and it makes me laugh that I must offend people in such a way

For the record I work 8 hours a day in an office and I actually hold a supervisory role, but because it's such a sh*t job I spend an inordinate amount of time on the 'net...for that I make no apologies ...soz for offending people in such a way...as for reaching 2000 posts in a record time I look forward to it and the subsequent badge that Jim and the other Mod's will present me when I do

Totally agree from a personal point of view...only a relative newbie and I've caught half a dozen codling in less than a dozen proper sessions so my catch rate is quite good
