Never used one myself but i have heard good reports about them usually when its hard digging in the Winter, a pump can sometimes make it a lot easier. I am not sure but they reckon just as the tide comes in the worms rise up in there holes and this is the best time to use it not sure but think i heard that from someone who uses them. Also lads use them for gathering black lugworm as black lugworm can go very deep especially in winter.

there is an art and a knachk to using a pump. A couple of my mates use them and can get up to 200 worms an hour ona good day and 40 or so on a bad. I've been with them and tried one of their pumpsand struggled to get 20 worms, a blister, sore arm and stiff back. It's all to do with the angle you put the pump at and the pushing down and pulling action. all the pumps you can buy do work, it's the user that sometimes doesn't.
The lads I know who are good at it both said it took them about 10+ hours to get ok at it. They said it's a "feel" thing. I just called them puffs and got my spade out like a real man!
