Sl20sh / Sl30sh

Hi All

Just wanted opinions on the differences between these two reels. Am thinking of buying but not sure which one. I want a reel with a bit speed which casts well and also good on rough ground/rock marks etc...but not big and bulky.

Basically im looking for an allrounder on a budget and have heard and read that these are good for the money!

Not an expert but the slosh 20 is the smaller reel and ideal for lighter line-smooth beaches. The 30 is the bigger reel more suitable for heavy line so suitable for rocky marks/boat fishing.
A good comparison would be my Penn Supermag extra and my Abu 7000.
Okuma also has two versions similar to Diawa slosh.

Dave, good reels. Pretty much as Mick says depends on what you're going to use it for. I use 30's with 40lb for the rocks and 20's with 20lb for beach, river etc.

both good over rocks and rough ground mate,but over that type of ground personally i would favour the SL30SH,30-40lb line straight through

i just got a slosh 30 a few weeks back and i think its great, i have it loaded with 35lb line, great cheap reel

slosh 20 is a great reel....bought an okuma magnetix 30 as my first multi and then the slosh 20...the slosh is smooth as you like compared to the okuma...will get myself another slosh 20 and then a 30 too

Like the lads say the 30s are generally regarded as heavier ground reels...although I know of a lad who fishes with 20s for both circumstances...after all you don't always need a 100yd+ cast off the rocks do you?

SLOSH30's are brilliant - best big reel on the market imho. They cast great and can chuck 30lb line 100yards in the right conditions/cast no problems.

SLOSH20's are outgunned by a 525mag I'm affraid.

i would agree with that Jimbob but would also add that i think the Penn 535 is on par with the Sl30sh,but defo the 525 out guns the SL20sh

I use the penn 535, and a mate of mine uses the slosh30, we've both had the reels for years with no problems with either, except my mate smashed the side plate on his a few years back when he slipped on weedy rocks, but a new part was easily bought.

I use a SLOSH30 for beach ,rock and cliff marks and ive had no problems.
Id go for the sl30.

Word of warning

If you do decide on a slosh 30 you'd better have reasonable sized hands, if you have small hands you will have trouble getting your thumb over the top of the spool thus ensuring it does not slip during casting, better off trying one on your rod that is full of line and make sure you can grip it ok. I would say I have average size hands and I sometimes find it a bit of a stretch on the old thumb, but I do fish with my reels fully loaded to the brim.

You're welcome to give my reel a try if you like. They are damn good reels and can pull a lead back in as if it were a torpedo.

Slosh is certainly not outgunned.

525 is a slightly better distance reel (5 -10yds at most) but for getting tackle and fish back a slosh wins hands down. Fish can often be on the surface 60 -70yds out which can be useful if there is kelp close in.

I have both reels and find i use the slosh 9 times out of ten. Its a far more controllable and consistent reel to use for fishing. With a 525 its a smaller diameter spool and therefore slower on the retrieve. I also find 525s a bit on off with the mags and soemetimes the mags can kill the cast othertimes they can run too fast. Its far too easy to knock the mags off by mistake.

To me the 525 mag would be perfect if it came with mags and brake blocks.

I also find I can grip a slosh spool easier with wet hands (i have fair size mitts and use the reel down)

Its personal though and I know lots of people who prefer the 525. If i had the choice though I would buy 2 sloshes at £69 each over 1x 525 at £150 any day.

I think the ultimate reel is the new penn torque, its a cross between the best bits of a slosh and 525 mag, its just a bit too expensive.

as you say mate personal choice,i have had 2 SL20sh`s and got rid of them when i got my first supermag,saying that,i wouldnt part with my SL30sh,but i found that the supermag is a better reel for rough ground than the sl20sh
