Just a general view of the most popular marks on roker pier.
I would class the main spots ive noted as big fish marks.
ive seen at least 7 or 8 double figure fish from the pier in the last few years
Very productive pier in most conditions.
more productive than shields??
suppose thats another thread altogether.
anyway hope it helps ya mate...good luck

best spot as far as i am concerned has to be the barrier, rough ground, thats my type of fishing, lose a sinker nearly every chuck but could be very worthwhile

Great post from Blackcat. The only thing missing is that you MUST use at least a breakaway from the neckend up to and including the roundhead. The flood tide runs from left to right, and is at its strongest on the Roundhead. I always use a grapnel here. If you don't use a decent breakaway/grapnel, you'll be fishing the pier foundations in the bay.
As for the best spot, the barrier turns up more quality fish, but not necessarily the numbers. For me though, you can't beat the roundhead for numbers and size of fish. I've had 4 fish over 8lb from here up to 11-8-0, and also lost 3 double figure fish taking them for a walk to the steps.
Another mark on there that rarely gets fished which is a cracking mark during any sea with easterly in it is the bayside opposite the barrier.Davy

I have always done well at 11 o clock off the round head, any further to the left is snaggy but pulled some cracking fish in there. The barrier is a good prot but can spoil your night when you keep loosing your gear every other chuck. Saying that, the roundhead is normally packed out when the gates are open, so getting a spot is never that easy.
