  • North Shields Fish Quay.

Hoping to get the rods out either this weekend or next weekend work permitting !. Can anyone tell me if it is o.k. to fish between the fish quay and the ice factory at North Shields ? I dont know what the venue is like not having fished there before but it seems a canny place for parking the car and getting access to the river. Pet me have any info that you may have lads/lasses.

You will need fresh carb and long casting this time of year. Expect loads of small codling and the odd sizer. Looking across the river turn left down to what is called the fish quay gut, unmistakeable. Chance of flounders and odd eel there. Would suggest sticking to long casting into river for odd codling.

I\'ve not fished there, but I\'ve heard it\'s a graveyard for tackle (?)

It is. You would be better trying a little more up river at Smiths Dock.
Again A little further cast is needed as their is a lot of heavy chains close in. There is also a little further up again at the bend to the marina enterance, Watch out though for those buggers in their Octoues (spelling) coming in close at speed cuttings your lines

I have fished there quite a few times, usually when I take someone who hasn\"t fished before. As previously stated it is a grave yard for gear if you can not get it a good way out. It is not one of my favourite places. That said I have had a few decent fish from there.

              Thanks to All.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I might try further up the river as suggested, dont mind losing a few bits of end tackle but NOT on each and every cast !

See my post on catch reports for Walker Riverside Park. You can fish by the car so you know it\'s still there. Didn\'t do too well myself but am sure it will be fishing better as the fish seem in good condition. If just pleasure fishing put 2 rods out one close and one further out and see what you get. Lug tipped with Mackerel seemed best and don\'t scrimp on the Mackerel, the bigger bits seemed to get best response.

Thanks Peter, I think I will give it a try, I hope its a bit better than the last time I was up there although I was not fishing at the time. I worked for Chubb Security a few years back and did a Saturday night shift on the Riverside Park just after they had built the new factory units. Patrolling that site consisted of dodging air gun pellets being fired from the bank tops and a guy walking his dog even wolf whistled after I had walked past him !, but there again, you know what they say about a man in uniform . I was just glad to get out of the area at the end of my shift. .

cheers Mate for the advice, (and thanks to all who have offered advice on my query).

The Royal Quays is a place you might try if it\'s for comfort fishing you can sit in your car of you want to. not quite so much traffic there as at the ice house, but you might just need some of these

You could try what is called the Rubber Company, access isnt too bad, and not too heavy on tackle. seating, and railings, but watch out for \"\" The Addams Family\"\" a bunch of strange bods who fish there on a sunday afternoon, they can be pretty inyimidating if you let them be. best just told to \" F*** off \"\"

Hi Black Velvet. Couldnt get the attachment up, it just showed as a little red cross on your message. I would liked to have seen it though !.

To Hiram - Would that be the ADDAMS FAMILY from Wallsend mate ? if so, F... O.. sometimes works but a pick handle is more effective.

                          Regards.
