I was out at Teesmouth yesterday afternoon for the high tide. Parked up along the end of the Fruitarom road and took my newly acquired trolley across the dunes and beach to ease the strain. Where the path comes out on the beach head straight for the cranes on the opposite bank.
I fished right out from the narrow part of the river where there's a sweeping bit of beach and the buoys directly in front of it. It's just downstream from the Greatham Creek mouth.
I do believe this will be a good bass spot as well as doggies and rays in the summer.
The water is exceptionally clear so lure fishing will be good here and you can even go into the light surf with chest waders as the slope off isn't much close in. Best of all I know ther are fish worth catching right now.
Although I didn't get a sniff myself, a damn seal popped up around 60 yds out with a pretty large round bodied fish in its mouth, perhaps to 5 lbs.
It could have been a sea trout, salmon or maybe a bass as they all share the same sort of silhouette from that sort of distance. Whatever, it won't be the only one there to be fished for. Seals will take their toll of course but there's not much chance of them getting them all.
Best thing about this location is you will have it all to yourself.Told the missus I was going on a diet. I'd only eat what I caught

For lures just fish the rough ground around where you live, You'll get them in Seaham. It's not worth starting yet, the sea is to cold for lures. Or just go to Torness.
For bait go to the beach, a nice little surf and 2 hook flappers or a running ledger with some lively little rag worm will work for schoolies Big bass don't get caught on worm too often. The crab will be peeling in numbers before too long so try crab over the coming weeks. Usually you don't need to cast far for a bass either.
