I've noticed a lot of people talking about the sea coming away, the colour of the water, which way the winds blowing etc. What does this mean exactly? Any snippets of wisdom as to the best time/place to fish in certain conditions greatly appreciated.

sea coming away ...movement waves and surf..colour of the water....... the sea goes a brown colour after it rains as the water runs off the hills if you stand on top of the dunes and look out to sea you will actually see where the dirty water runs out from the habours and where it usually ends..wind well North south east or west..Northly to N.Easterlies gives us a rough sea as does easterly . the westerly winds normally calm the seas down. now you know why we fisher folk are never happy with the wind directions... we like it rough in the winter for the shore fishing and calm in the Spring & summer do we can get out in our boats.May the holes in your net be no larger than the fish in it.

Aye the rough sea/waves churns the sand up on the beaches so fish come in to feed on the crabs and worms etc.If its flat it does not get as much food washed out. Therefore there is not as many fish.Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.
