I used to get loads back in early 1990's before the kids were born travelled all over the country even down to dungeness & around sw Scotland then about 1995 it seemed to go quiet until 2000 I gave up & started freshwater fishing
Still was gobsmacked with the occasional pollock on the fly rod!
& always fancied a return to sea fishing tried it 5 years ago & couldn't believe how poor it was. Started again in January & to be honest done very well for the times I've been! But the way I look at it now is.......this is my hobby & what I want to do in my spare time if I get a fish that's a bonus.
& when it drops off in the n.east there's some beautiful scenery all over the west coast with some species to catch that make you realise it's not all about catching fish

Have you caught smoothhound or tope from the shore? My first & last hound was a long while ago but the memories are still fresh as ever & if I had the choice of 1 decent double figure smoothie or tope vs a winters cod season with plenty of fish, I'd say bye to the cod!
Get yourself to different places & target different species it's unreal, even 3hours drive to Eyemouth, or 3hours to kirkudbright
If better still a week down in Devon / Cornwall

try the ring of stones the river side of the north gare some good bass have been landed there, or as you walk along the beach to the north gare a couple of hundred meters before you get there you can see water bubbling up out to sea from a outlet pipe fish directly in front of it, had a few schoolies from there on more than one occation

never bothered with ferry landing myself but used to fish ice house and rubber plant and had good bags april may certainly gone down hill.
fished ice house a few weeks back first time for a while with frozen crab not a touch.
not long after i took up fishing i got told about rubber compny so went over 1day and fished it, well afetr having a few small stuff and was getting ready to go home, chris stringer and another guy came and set up next to me, affter setting up and casting out chris went over to his big wicker basket and promptly threw the remains of 23 filleted fish over the side which he told me he and tony taylor and a few others got them from top of N/S ferry landing at first light that morning on frozen crab this time of the year which was sometime in march i believe, and they done it every year , and so was waiting for ferry to stop and they were going back on for another session

never go the chance to try my self as the following year a bigger and more secure fence ws put up that stopped the fishin because of the mess anglers left behind

ps this is not an excuse to start a mess war just to let people why people not fish ferry landing any more
