  • Fancy a new rod

Have got a longbeach, Daiwa 129pm and Tip Tornado Light. All great rods.

I'm looking for advice on buying a rod with a bit more backbone than the 129 but not as powerful as the longbeach which is my all rounder. Would be a smidge over 13 foot ideally. Quality british rod sort of thing.

    Any suggestions?

        the new kompressors

        Kompressor SS

The Kompressor SS is a more powerful version of the Kompressor S. Danny Moeskops who had a huge influence in the design of the Kompressor SS wanted to retain intrinsic smoothness in the cast. Load up with 175 gram plus baited trace, reel brimming with line, 12 turns of 80lb shock leader and send it all into effortlessly into big seas and really rough ground. The upper tip retains the same compression curve of the Kompressor S however the lower barrel of the tip and butt is more powerful allowing energy to be stored and released through a series of enhanced Gearboxes. The smoothness of delivery is a revelation and the rod recovers quickly to allow the fast passage of line. This smoothness cannot be overemphasized and it is a benefit we have spent a considerable amount of time achieving giving 100% feedback from the cast. Consider kelp jungles, really tough conditions that anglers encounter on the eastern seaboard of Scotland down to Yorkshire, Northern Scotland with its deep sea lochs, Wales and Cornwall, where local and roving anglers can battle the elements with confidence. The Kompressor SS has been completely evaluated in these venues by anglers who were impressed by the power, lightness and slimness of the rod that can send a baited trace and 200gm lead a long way.

A minimalist look and totally functional

the dogs danglies jimbob unreal bite detection light as owt but plenty of backbone for the kelp £300 @ reelsport worth every penny

Used to have a Kompressor Sport, nice rod. How would you compare it to a longbeach?

Hi Jimbob, I've got a Reelsport Response, cracking piece of kit IMO, although have read somewhere that the Response used to be called the Longbeach (not 100% sure of this mind) if not, worth a look at mate.

Same rod, good bit of kit. But I would like something that I can compress a bit more quickly on say a pier. Fine if you've got a bit of room or are slugging a big bait at your feet.

Would a tip tornado match do the job? Any opinions?

I bought myself a Zziplex Primo Synchro a few years back and was so impressed with it I went and bought a second one, IMHO they are fantastic, not cheap, but worth every penny, I don't pendulum cast (wish I could) but can cast 150m over football fields with just an overhead thump. Everyone has their favourites, this is mine.

If you wanted to try one of these rods out with a few casts, you would be more than welcome.

Tip tornado sport is a cracking rod i use mine all the time during the summer months on clean beaches will cope with mixed ground aswell and the odd rough ground sessions another good rod is the century c3ld but its a clean ground rod only.

I've just bought the kompresser ss mate, fantastic! Alot stiffer than what I had but very good for the mixed/rough areas. The bite detection is spot on too. I think the century rods are in a different class.

I use a Conoflex Nemesis Plus SLR. Good for all round use. Not as stiff as an Apollo and adaptable to use easily on beaches, rivers etc. Worth a look but everyone has their opinion. If you get a chance to try then do as some favour others style and don't suit you as I've found in the past.
