  • snag at horden

hi guys, perhaps some of your more knowledgable chaps can help here, fair few times i have fished at the bottom of the dene at horden, however after loosing a fair few wieghts its getting me annoyed now, i dont get the problem every cast, basically cast out - prob around 120 yards maybe slightly more, conditions not bouncing the rod about, can be out for around 10 mins no movement then i get a gentle bob on the rod, thats when the issue starts, try to pull in and i am into a snag, sometimes about a couple of turns in i am into it, sat there with pressure on nothing, pull for a break and the line parts down near the leader, i use 15lb bs red ice line, no heavy i know but i thought horden was a clean beach

Could be old nets or cables, try moving further to your left or right. If you lose too much gear dont fish that spot, unless you get loads of cod lol.

When you come out of the dene turn rightt. You'll see a pipe on the beach leading out to sea. Fish just to left or to the right of it and you'll be fine. If you're going down this weekend I'll gladly show you some of the marks I fish down there e.g. tommys rock, white rock etc. You're more than welcome to tag along.

There is a spot on Steetly which has an old net. It used to be straight off the end but now its moved round to the right. See loads getting snagged and thats about the only place you get caught.
As to the beach i fished with Craig the other day off a beach at Leyburn or leymouth it was up near the aluminium works. I used two rods one with 30lb line and my other with 15lb line.
Both got stuck but the 30lb er pulled clear eveytime and i only lost a hook trace on this rig.
The 15lb er got stuck and on the last cast my tapered leader snapped at the top.Craig lost one trace and half of his line on one of his rods.
Overall i did,nt do to bad. Beach had lots of small rocks so i think when snagged we dislodged some.
I suppose its the hazards of beaches.
One of these days i will get down onto Horden.
