I was havin a laugh out the bathroom thing
Point is that it needs either hot to expand spigot (female) or cold (male end) & usually needs more than a quick rinse in water
Usually 10 mins under the flow of water does the job

Or you could do a spray of WD40 up the butt end. It'll run down to the spigot and ooze its way down the joint after a while.

doing this would probably create a vacuum and make it even harder to part the rod , cant comment though as I never tried it . what I did was wrap insulation tape around both sections and used 2 pairs of mole grips to get the sections to turn . also when I was a lad in the 80's I came off horden beach around 5am and my rod was stuck fast , I laid the rod on the ground and reversed the car just over the butt cap , I could then concentrate on turning and pulling the top section , it came apart in no time .

take hold of the rod at the tip eye, get someone to hold rod at but cap end and spin it like skipping rope action works every time.

Tony your a genius. I've just need fannying on with oil and boiled water for half an hour. I left the skipping rope idea till last cos it sounded the daftest but a few spins and it's back in two pieces.

if the butt is the female and as no spigot coming out of it , you can get a socket set , get a socket which will fit inside the but and use it as a floating hammer to knock the tip out

I barely nipped it under the tyre , no damage to the butt at all.
