What happened on Friday, i had a fish for you as promised mate, just think if only you'd come back to weigh in you could have seen the real thing and posted about the contents of the cods stommach.
Terry, Thanks for the offer but the missus would have thought I won the match and she would have held me to ransom for ever for some winnings.
A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.

            Spoons

My fly fishing priest has a gut spoon attachment so as to see what the trout are feeding on so you can match your fly selection to the contents of it's guts. Funny after 15yr of carrying it in my trout bag Iv'e never actually carried it on a trip to the sea nor tried to empty a cod's stomach with it... just wondering how many of you out there actually use this freshwater tactic on sea fish? If so, how successful is it? It is rumoured that certain species of fish switch on a tunnel vision to a certain food type at certain time's of the year and tide... the spoon could be a useful addition to the sea angler's armoury.

I don't think for one minute they intend to eat such items, but there must be something edible near by when they scoop it all up. They dont call them bucket mouths for nowt lol. The one I got from the flat rock had shrimp and parp in its gut.

Caught one in Blyth harbour years ago, stomach was full of sweetcorn and other (human) food scraps, was a lot of boats in the harbour at the time so I'm guessing it was picking through slops tossed over the side.

Not inside a cod, but I found this inside a squid on Friday:

i'm assuming that the squid swallowed it, as I couldn't find a hole anywhere for it to climb in? That's a 6" blade alongside for comparison.
