  • Stuff Cod eat...

What half digested (or even un-digestable) foodstuffs have people discovered in the belly of the Cod they have caught?

Gutted my fish from last night and came across the inevitable Ragworm, a small sandeel, a small fish which looked a lot like a very tiny Blennie and some squid strip...

Funny thing was that I wasn't using Squid as bait last night so it must have been from someone else on the beach who'd fed him up for me
    Ooh a new vid!

A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.

Well they certainly wern't fussed on my lug rag and squid i was trying to catch them with last night.

Iv'e heard of cod having bottle tops and the old style can ring pulls in their gut when been cleaned.

              Urban myth perhaps?
It's a thin line that seperates an Angler from a madman standing on the beach in january at midnight in -5 degrees with a northerly wind blowing in your face

was on a charter boat years ago when I were a wee lad and and one of the blokies gutted a monster cod with a flip flop in its belly

Had one last year that had a freshly filleted mackeral in it - just a head tail and back bone - very tom and jerry!, was on the wrecks, guessing someone must of been over it earlier and lobbed the mackie over the side

And i bet that was a pic from a cooking mag Steve.

What happened on Friday, i had a fish for you as promised mate, just think if only you'd come back to weigh in you could have seen the real thing and posted about the contents of the cods stommach.

I caught a 5 pounder off Roker one year with a folded up chinky tin in its guts.

Years ago when Dawdon pit was still there, any codling you caught from the beaches round there were virtually guaranteed to have coal and/or pebbles in their guts, due to them sifting the bottom looking for food.
