  • If you think it's too rough...

    ...you'd be right

Just lasted less than 40 minutes on Blyth Beach....hellish winds, horizontal rain, huge tidal rip....add to that fact I had a HUGE birdsnest which I am yet to either untangle or put new line on

All because I had a rush of sh*t to the brain in search of BIG FISH

It was all completely against the better judgement of the little voice in the back of my head which was saying:

"stay in tonight Tony - it's going to fish it's t*ts off tomorrow for the Friendly"

LOL oh well - I've left Phil and Gregg out there somewhere...good luck to 'em

If you are thinking of going out I'd either go to a spot that is very well sheltered or I'd just stay in and have a bath/beer/cup of tea
    Ooh a new vid!

This does tend to lead to an overexuberant first cast I agree.

You've reached your mark and look like the dog sitting on the back of that pick-up with Steve Martin in "Trains, Planes and ......"

You got the wrong size snow tyre on the front wheel (Reliant Robin M8 "Classic")

You're wrapped against the warm but the walk down the beach leaves your chest coated in Ice cold sweat for a laugh - you don't care it's "Hammer Time"

You've loaded up some mad type bait monster lacckyed to death that's cost about £4.50

You KNOW there's fish out there

The cold is a long and distant memory, you glow like the ready brek boy as you march, resloutely into the surf (allways looking down for huge 25ft holes on the sly, cos you never know, and if some feckers going to fall in one you know it's going to be you). Your left welly has already filled up and your baccky pocket has been swamped by a rogue wave.

If you're like me (A bit of a tit) I look at this wall of foaming water, full of fish scran - like a peeler crab smoothy (yup heard it here first). The first thing I want to do is to cast over the top of it all into lovely clear water that doesn't exist. The waves are scaring me a bit as I've just had me hair done so it all gets a bit to much.

Although the conditions say it could just be the sesh of a lifetime you don't have a little hoy out with a plane lead to loosen up and bed the line in nice. You even knock the brakes of a bit, then launch it like only we know how -

Crack off at maximum bad time - reel fluffs up like that weird Lauren blonde brainy kid transexuals hair of the telly (Or the boss bear of "The Hair Bair Bunch" a documentary about American wildlfe for our younger readers, they invented the invisible motor cycle - ideal for getting to the end of Roker Pier)

Yup another birdy - and you go nuts

My mate Geordie has been known to go prone and headbutt the beach at such times. I get philosophical and punch myself in the face really hard.

Aye is a bugger all right

Every comp I've payed to enter (not cheap) - and got to a good first mark -everytime, everytime - my diddly sproket would go or I'd end up casting myself into the water or sticking myself in the eye with a baiting needle. Second, third and fourth casts always perfect and very easy to retrieve as there's nowt on the end, your grippers have broke out, bait clips worked and luckily the Sandy McNabs have cleaned your hook. These are the things I look forward to in fishing these days.

Me and my mate Geordie often say on the long pedal home. That was a cracking session, didn't loose a single lead and nee birdys.

Kick yourself anway, it's good for the soul. If you not bendy enough just bite yourself really hard on the arm. Makes one feel better. Better than shouting at the guinea pig, I think it's a guinea pig but there's that many furry automatons wobbling round my house asking to be tickled or doing backflips with flashing eyes after christmas it's hard to tell the presents from the family

Sorry to disappoint you mate put the fishing didn't quite go to plan. After fishing Blyth pier without even a bite! Everyone coming off (and that was a lot of people ) said the same. We grabbed the gear and decided to move to King Eddies Bay but when we got to the car a bloke told us there had been a few good fish taken at Camois and the back of the silos would be fishing. Off we headed, great mark as we were sheltered form wind and rain and we could fish straight out of back of car. Set 2 rods up and within no time was getting bites on both...1st fish swam into boulders and as my other rod was knocking i had to just snap off. Grabbed other rod and got closer to sea only to pull in a rockling!! It was a good size tho.
Bloke next to us started shouting he had a good fish so went for a look and just as i had done he was stuck in the boulders. We could see the fish which i reckon was 5-lb+ but it just would not budge even tho he tried for ages giving it loads of slack. Next i got a very slack liner and i scurried down the hill as winding in as quick as i could but by the time i got line tight it was........you guessed it! in the boulders I spent a good Min's trying to get it out but it was never going to happen! A couple of the regulars said it would be hard to get fish up with the small tides and they were right! Gutted, you do the hard work, get the luck of hooking a fish and loose it at your feet!
Phil managed a nice Plaice and we called it a day at 2AM ish. Great mark tho and I'll be back when tides are bigger!

I said in the other thread that it would fish there last night, but you do have to be a prob with the rocks.
I will often on a smaller tide fish the wall a little way down, need rotten bottom but you have a better chance of landing the fish.
