  • ss pier pier today 3/4/2014

went to ss pier today with me m8 the first gate closed due to bad weather ?
started around 10.30am,bait for the day was rag lug and Mackie and a corned beef pie can of fanta, not a dame thing all day lost a couple of rigs but you can expect that on shields pier.
fished till 3.45pm then called it a day very poor.
had to try out me new rod leeda icon m sport power ( nice ) but got nowt possible next time we go out better luck but not on ss pier.
anyway the trout season has now started so the fly rods are out ready for the off.

Hit and miss this time of year. If you are fishing the Slab / first gate area into the harbour it's always worth trying a rod dropped pretty much straight down the side, small hooks and a thumbnail of bluey for bait. Should get loads of little stuff to keep you interested plus the odd surprise - this time last year I had a 2 1/2lb coalie from down there

Caught a canny 1.5lb coley there a couple of years back almost down the side! Well worth a 'shark' rod in close :-) caught a wrasse there last year too... Only about 5" long but canny anyway!
