I\'am looking for a new spinning reel
Just wondered if anyone has bought a new one recently or can recommend something, its always nice to hear what other peeps are using, must be something half decent that will team up with a spinning rod and carp rod,i\'am not that bothered about top brand names as long as it does the business.
My daughter has shown an interest in fishing this summer so she can use some of my old gear, well thats my excuse on blowing some money
    Cheers Alan...

bought 2 recently, one a ron thomson xenon 630 (20 quid ish) and the other an okuma zirkon at 40 quid.

the rt is smaller but is very well made, 7 or 9 ball bearings (can\'t remember which) and is incredibly smooth, the okuma is a lot bigger, very high quality build/feel, mega smooth lots of bearings (7 or 9 again)

I used em both off the rocks in scotland at easter and was very impressed with both of em, especially at the price. they feel and look like very expensive reels

I used the rt on a daiwa sensor 9ft spinning rod and the okuma on an 11.5ft Daiwa carp road, if that helps

    Thought for the day:
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

Can offer the same advice as above. The Okuma range are excellent value for money. Even the £12 stuff will get you fishing smoothly.

Bought 2 over the last couple of summers and even though they don\'t get great stick they are smooth as owt!

I am alos looking for a spinning reel, i have never had any luck with spinning reels all i have owned are crap to say the least and its not a case of buy cheap get cheap i spent £50 on a reel last year and its crap.
The best reel i have had for spinning so far is a penn 4500ss but it is let down by not having a rear drag system..that is a must for me now in spinning reels.

                Alan / Richy,

                Can\'t fault the Okumas.

Ians\' had the Okuma Chaser BX-30 for a few years and it\'s a really good, smooth running reel.

I got the Undertaker UR50 from Billys as a Christmas pressie last year - only used it 3 or 4 times but it handles very well and is a delight to use......ermmmm....once I\'d remebered to open the bale arm before casting (age does strange things to ya memory.....lol)

I always wait for an audience before I cast with the bale arm closed, or if I am using a multiplier I leave the gear engaged - that way it ensures maximum embarrassment for me and good entertainment for the onlookers

I recently bought my first spinning outfit: an Okuma Amazonium AMB50 which has 6 bearings, 3 spools, 2 crank handles and a bait-runner rear drag. I teamed it up with a Shimano Exage STC spinning (Travel) rod. The rod is a five piece with an extra section which makes it effectively two rods in one; you can set it up either as a 3.3 Metre 20 - 50g casting weight rod or as a 3 Metre 50-100g casting weight rod. It comes complete with a metre-long hard travel case, so that you can take it on your jollies and let the airport baggage handlers jump all over it.

I managed to catch on my first trip out just a small whiting not much bigger than the Dexter Wedge it had in its mouth! I was well pleased to have caught anything as the water was really coloured. I had some pretty good casts once I remembered to open the bale arm! I sent one 60gm wedge screaming over the horizon - pity the line wasn\'t still attached though I think I need some shock leader!
