i know the feeling I used to go fishing as often as possible without as much thought to conditions and locations ( fishing to suite me and not the fish) now i try to plan around conditions and the state of the tide, tried Lynemouth the other day when flat etc and was greeted with a big blank, having had about 12-13 lb of fish a few days earlier in the evening with better sea movement. I think the trick is to pick the right spot in the right conditions.
happy to meet up any time, but i aint no pro more of an amature
cheers

It is hard work sometimes fishing. Cod are a lot harder to catch as there is a lot less of them. Personally i go to relax. I have a stressful job and its nice not to have people on my back all of the time.
This season has been hit and miss for me this year. I still cannot complain though. I have caught some lovely whities. The trick is now to plan more. Its like what fishytail is saying. Conditions have to be right to nail fish.
When i visit Hartlepool to see family i chuck my fishing gear in the motor and check out the sea when i,m down there.
If its flat as a pancake i think oh well its flattie bashing. If the sea is heavy. Its put the big bait rig on. Usually fish with two rods. I have only ever blanked a couple of times.
As to cod i could buy a slab in the supermarket for half the price of the bait.
On a different note i took up fly fishing last year in stocked resevoirs and you can still blank-tis the luck of the day.

coco,
not me mate just got back from belgum, looking at the pics posted of lyneburn and looking at the forecast i think that lynemouth will be unfishable on thursday. Your best bet is to venture onto blyth pier1 have a look at the beech first, if it is fishable give it a shot as the pier will probably be busy.
but the heavier the sea the better for the pier big bait tipped with muscle and razor and i am sure it will do the trick. Send me a pm if you want to catch up
Cheers
