  • Food for thought

I was walking the dags on South beach today (just south of the farm) and came across a washed up black bream about 3lb. I know they've turned up on our shores before but just wondered if they are about in any numbers at any time.

I've been thinking about winter beach fishing with spinning tackle (cos i never catch anything big) when we have periods of calm seas and wonder if they are worth targeting

Graham, my mate plucked a Rays Bream out of the surf at whitburn and it sounds like another lad has maybe found one beached on one of the catch reports.

Do they feed on their way past us though? I thought they were on a migratory route and just gan daft once in a while.

It would take a brave man to get the spinning gear out in the middle of winter. I'd make sure you do it at night when no other winter anglers are around

I was thinking of using the spinning tackle for bottem fishing in the same way you'd use a beach rod (flat seas tho'). It's just to give the 3 inch long whitys and coalies a fighting chance against a 16 stone bricky

Try out m8, why not. I still reckon my shore angling cod feather rig is worth a go - I've said it before ..............

Super floating snood with lures on - white cod feathers, hokkai type stuff. The rig puts a lead on the bottom anchoring the whole shermozzle - with a running ledger type affair going on, lures float skywards. Angler jigs shore rod resulting in feathers doing ther thing. Could be a goer - hoverboots as well I'm working on them.
