This has been a perfectly nornmally put issue in the hope of provoking sensible debate - and already you're threatening to take it down?
Where do you do your fishing Greg: the Peoples Republic of China?

A Cursory glance eh, I suggest you go back and have a proper look at some of the threads on that link Micky, if you had done that (which is the reason I put the link there in the first place) it would have answered a lot of your questions.

Every time this this subject comes up there are loads of arguements and PMs going back and forth and we have to sort the problems out not you.

I don't know how long you have been using forums but they do get heated, anyone that has used this forum for a while knows, that there have been problems every time this subject has been brought up in the past. It is not long since the last time and it won't be happening this time either.

Thanks for keeping me right by the way, I assume by your answer that you do know all about forums and there workings??

I have never been to China yet no, maybe you could enlighten me on the fishing over there just in case I do go one day.

If you take a look at the rest of the answers on this thread both before and after I posted, then again it will tell you about how the subject has gone down in the past.

I certainly don't apologise for my post and it still stands, if it does kick off it will be gone, whether you or anyone else likes it or not.

      Jim.
I had never used forums before now so I didn't know where to begin really. I just wanted to bring this up as a friend of mine, over a pint last night, told me he used to have loads of tyres as a kid. Apparently the people who do them now on the quay are a bit of a nasty crowd really (2 of them stole a line of his).
Anyway. I can see it's a heated topic and many here may have vested interest.

So your total knowledge of forums and my moderating skills come from your four full days on NESA, you must pick things up very quickly to be able to put me right on my mistakes already Micky.

My comments on possibly removing the thread were not for your benefit but the benefit of NESA as people getting at each others throats does nothing at all for anyone.

          Jim.

Micky: fact of the matter is its a very contentious issue.

have been know to climb upon my soap box myself on the subject.

the point is, some people have very strong feelings about, and its all too easy to write something on here from the safety of your armchair. People react, and on subjects they feel passionate about react strongly

Now, there are some that might disagree with what people say but are sensible enough to see that they have a right to say it. there are others that are unable to agree to disagree and the whole thing descends into farce, PM war, threats of violence etc

So every now and then these things need to be nipped in the bud before they get to that point.

admin/moderation is a thankless task, but without it, the place would self destruct. Nobody pays Jim to be here many hours a day making sure everyone behaves. But he does, for everyones benefit

If people come in here and can't accept the rules they don't last long, and generally speaking everyone that contributes - admin, mods, and members alike understand that, and are fairly united in what the place is about

not many get a second chance

My observation was a literal one, based on your initial reply and that alone. You say that this subject is a contentious one, and which has provoked debate - heated debate - unecessary vitriol - in the past. But how was I supposed to have identified this, when, by your own admission, you have deleted all these historic posts from the very thread you initially sent to me? The thread you added was a broad church, and I've been unable to identify any similar content of the sort I had hoped to discuss.
Maybe what we need is a set of guidelines for doing traps - more of an official position that an informal ettiquette. I don't know.

came from this thread....which was quite a mild one by all accounts

I just did the same search and found that
http://www.nesa.co.uk/forums/shore-f...rab-traps.html straight away with over 100 replies on the thread

                          look at http://www.nesa.co.uk/forums/shore-f...ed-permit.html

too me seconds to find and has all the extreme views I guess you're hoping for.

if you look at the members who posted on there, many have been here since the beginning, and seen the arguement rage before, so p'raps its a case of not going there again for the majority - been there, done that, bought the tee shirt

what I'm saying is, its unlikely there's going to be any new/differing views, so it might not have any mileage dragging it up again

If the fiirst link doesn't show you how divisive a subject this is, try imagine how nasty things must of been in the deleted bits

Cheers for that. Either way, I'll be doing any traps I find come this Spring time. No-one - and I mean - no-one - has the right to place rubber gill-nets all over the fish quay beach and claim that these un-licencesed, arbritrary restrictions are 'theres'. I'll do the traps. Simple as that!
