Well got the bearings fitted and the reel is running very smooth although I did notice a tiny bit play in the reel housing where the plastic bush had started to rub away thus not giving as tight a fit as I wanted. Fixed this problem with a tiny slice of paper at the front of each bearing to make it nice and tight!! . Roll on the warmer weekends! !!!

Now we all know. Buy an Alivio at £32 (sounds like some sort of Italian buttery spread) and get the bearings put in right off and you have an Exage at £59
Valuable bit of info there. Well done.
I guess the paper shim won't last long though in your current situation.Told the missus I was going on a diet. I'd only eat what I caught

Going on this topic I assume the same applies to the Penn Affinity and Surfblaster as far as the bearings go. I see the Affinity has 3 more than the Sufblaster and the price is a chunk more for it.
Affinity 8000 is £120 and the Surblaster 8000 is £80. A 50% increase for what looks like the benefit of 3 extra bearings. Not on you life.
Anyone got any first hand knowledge of these in comparison as I will be looking for either the 7000 or the 8000 as the summer goes on.
Can't find a schematics of them either. Anyone?Last edited by Lynnzer; 04-04-2014, 03:04 PM.Told the missus I was going on a diet. I'd only eat what I caught

Spot the differences?
No prizes but useful to see where your money goes and may well save a few quid in the long run.
