  • new reel

well after falling for the shopping scam and my credit card taking a hammering the gf has said I can have a new reel for xmass now the hard bit is which one to get with a budget of about 90-100 have been lookin on ebay at the 6500 mag elite anybody got one or recomend any others about the same price range

I'd go for a penn 525 mag or Supermag but that's just personal choice.

There's a brand new Okuma Magnetix for sale in the trade section, looks like a bargain to me.
    Cheers, Keith.

I own various Abu rockets, 6500s and a Diawa 7ht and to be honest I can't say that one is better than the other, they all do exactly what they are supposed to do (get a lead a decent distance in a well behaved fashion) I've very rearly had any trouble with overruns etc and when I have it's been down to me not the reels.

I've never tried the 525s so I can't comment on them personally but I would imagine they are cracking reels as well.

I usually use the Penn 525 and 525 mags for my clean beach fishing and can't fault them. I also have an Abu 6500 that I use which does as good a job when casting. My only problem with the Abu is the retrieve it is very slow compared with the Penn reels, apart from that I couldn't fault it at all.

Ive got both and I agree with WILLYWETEGG. My own personal choice is clean beach work: ABU loaded with 12lb or 15lb. Rivers/broken ground 525mag with 20lb. The ABU is more user friendly.

I used to use a 7000-now its me second reel. Then i got the supermag extra. Thought at first it was horrible. But i would,nt swop it for the world now. NO TANGLES since sideplate replaced.
