  • Tough....or daft ?

Fished Druridge bay last night, (1 small flounder) with my mate Les.

About 5 o'clock, 3 lads from Lynemouth / Ashington area came down and set up close by.

I had a bit of craic with them, then went back to my rod. Les then had a craic with them, and soon after came over to where I was.

"Have a look at what one of those lads has on his feet" says Les

    So I went back.

Last night it was so cold that the sand was as hard as concrete, the air temperature was wicked, and Christ only knows what the water temperature was.

Two of the 3 lads were wearing sensible thick waterproof boots, the third was in the water wearing a pair of white trainers !

Unless he has wooden feet, he is either extremely tough, or he hides his pain very well.

i always wear warm gear now but when i was younger would do the pubs in jeans and t shirt with no ill effect, to be perfectly honest i dont think it maters whether you are a marine or not our bodies react the same no matter what, mind it would look funny if he did come out fishing in his cossie.
apart from keeping your head and feet warm the next bits of the body you should keep covered up are your wrists and neck area, when these areas get cold the blood traveling around cools and and so do you.
anyone out in minus conditions with just light gear on is daft especially fishing, does anyone remember the poor lad who died walking home from the pub a couple of years back

Reducing your bodies core temperature also puts you more at risk of picking up deadly illnesses such as 'Man Flu', as when you come back into warm climes where the bugs are rife, your resistance to 'Man Flu is weakened....I should know....Got a soaking last weekend and was too infirm to fish last night. Lol...

Didn't stop wor lass leavin me a load of ironin to do tho!....And the hooverin....She still ain't rubbed the vicks into me chest like she promised.

          Tony,
Was good to meet you last week, even if the weather was attrocious to say the least.

If you remeber when the tide dropped you walked out onto the rocks...I tried to follow.

What I didnt realise was you had waders on and I was wearing rigger boots...that coupled with failing torch batteries was a mistake.

Thats why I never said bye.

The good news is my feet thawed out by the time I got to durham on the way home

          Cheers
          Dave

              Iron = HOT
Hoover = HOT air pumping out

A bit inconsiderate with the vicks mind
